BRIEF HISTORY OF THE COLLEGE
The College was established in 1980 by the then Kwara State government during His Excellency, Late ALHAJI ADAMU ATTAH’s regime as School of Nursing, Obangede, Kwara State. The present site was then Model Nursery/Primary School owned by the Okehi Local Government Council.
The College was given a provisional approval by Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) in June 1980. The Kogi State Government inherited the school as School of Nursing, Obangede on the creation of Kogi State in August, 1991.
Professionally, the school witnessed series of accreditation visits which led to it being granted full accreditation at a time and eventually provisional accreditation as a result of College request for increased (75) indexing. The school has witnessed transformation in infrastructural development and has graduated about 2450 Nurses as at November, 2013.
The former Executive Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency, Alh. Ibrahim Idris graciously approved and released substantial amount of fund for appropriate construction/ cleanup activities such as Ultra Modern Auditorium, Science Laboratory, a brand new 45KVA generating set towards the full accreditation of the College. These prompted the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria in a letter dated 4th March, 2008 to give full accreditation to the College after their last visit.
The government of Alhaji Ibrahim Idris signed into law changing the School of Nursing, Obangede to Kogi State College of Nursing and Midwifery, Obangede. The government of Capt. Idris Ichalla Wada implemented the law and appointed the first Provost for the College, Mr Titus Kehinde Ayinmodu and put in place for the first time a Governing Council, headed by a renowned Professor of Medicine, Prof. Ibrahim Abdu-Aguye.
The current Executive Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency, Capt. Idris Ichalla Wada released fund for the construction of Information/Communication Technology Centre (ICT), Administrative Block and a Modern Female Hostel in preparation for another accreditation visit scheduled for August to October, 2014.
